The Quest to Tally Alaska’s Wild ‘Warm-Blooded’ Bumblebees

“Folks never come to Denali and other parks in Alaska to seem at bumblebees, but they should really,” states Jessica Rykken, entomologist for Denali Countrywide Park and Protect. Sikes states bumblebees are “actually heat-blooded: They make heat, it’s just not continual, the way mammals do. But it is internal, not just from basking in the sunshine.”

The natural lifecycle of Bombus species suits with Alaska’s very long winters and short summers.
